Upland Optics Perception HD 8x42mm Hunting Binoculars Review

Upland Optics Perception HD 8x42mm Hunting BinocularsAfter testing the Uplands Optics Perception HD 8x42mm bino, I decided to write an honest review about it.

So having tested the Perception 8×42 mm bino, what I can say is that I was quite impressed with the optics.

The images are very clear even at long ranges and this is due to the fact the Perception uses ED glass, which minimizes chromatic aberration.

I was thrilled to see that there was no color fringing on the edges of the images.

On top of that, it uses multicoated lenses that allow more light to enter the scope thereby delivering sharper, brighter, and clearer visuals.

The other thing I liked about these binos was the sturdy build. It has a rubber armoring which gives it a rugged feel and makes it easy to grip even if your hands are wet.

[wpsm_box type=”info” float=”none” text_align=”left”]
The lenses are purged nitrogen to make them fog-free and the body is made of durable and lightweight materials.
[/wpsm_box]

The only two issues I had with the binos was the eye relief and the weight. The eye relief was not so great and therefore, even though the product offers an eye relief of 17mm, I would not recommend these binos to people who wear glasses.

The other issue was the weight. These binos are heavy and they may prove to be a challenge particularly when out in the wild for hours trying to catch your prey.

Although this not much of a problem because they come with a comfortable neck strap allowing you to carry the binos easily around your neck. Holding them for an extended amount of time is hard.

Features and Benefits

Optical Lenses

The Uplands Optics Perception HD has a 42mm objective lens and 8x magnification, which is ideal for hunting binos. In fact, the 8x magnification is adequate for long-range shooting.

What is fantastic about these binos is that they offer a field of view of 426 feet, which is very impressive. Most quality binos don’t offer such a wide field of view, not even the Uplands Optics Perception 10x42mm binos.

[wpsm_box type=”warning” float=”none” text_align=”left”]
The only thing you should keep in mind is that when you increase the magnification, the field of view becomes compromised. It narrows and this can be a problem if you need to keep track of a moving target.
[/wpsm_box]

The Perception 8x42mm bino uses extra-low dispersion glass, which eliminates chromatic aberration. And I can confidently say that I did not notice any color fringing on the images.

The bino also uses coated lenses which allow more light to enter the scope delivering sharp, bright, and clear views. So even when the lighting conditions are bad, you are able to see your target clearly with these binos.

What’s more, is that the lenses are purged nitrogen to avoid fogging.

The Field of View

Having tested the Perception 10×42, I thought to myself, well this is a bino I would recommend to people who wear glasses. More so because it has great eye relief.

But I did not think there was another Perception out there that could offer a better eye relief until I tested the Perception 8x42mm bino.

Honestly, not many binos even the quality ones can offer a field of view of 426 feet. But that is exactly what the Perception 8×42 offers, which is great if you wear glasses.

Body Quality

The Perception 8x42mm is a roof prism bino. That means its compact, lightweight, and sturdy.

It has a magnalium chassis, which makes it slightly heavier than a polycarbonate bino but it’s tougher. And this is exactly what you need when you need to go hunting in bad weather.

Upland Optics Perception HD 8x42mm binocular has dimple like patterns, for a firm grip

You don’t need a bino made of flimsy material, but one that can withstand anything.

The other thing I noticed about its construction is the rubber armoring, which has dimple like patterns, for a firm grip. The rubber armoring also protects the binos from shock and water damage.

Fast-Focusing

[wpsm_box type=”info” float=”none” text_align=”left”]
The Perception HD 8×42 has a fast focusing system, which allows you to quickly and easily focus on your target. The large central focus wheel on the bino enables you to adjust this focus.
[/wpsm_box]

It has a rubber armoring, which makes it easy to use. So your finger won’t slip when you are trying to focus.

Accessories

The Perception HD 8×42 comes with a carrying case and a neck strap. The neck strap has some padding for comfort and the carrying case is made of durable material. However, the case doesn’t have any pockets.

The Perception also comes with lens covers and a lens cloth. The covers protect your lenses from dust, water or dirt and you can use the lens cloth to clean the lenses if they come into contact with dust.

Athlon Optics 113004 Midas 8×42 UHD is a roof prism bino that is designed for hunting and other outdoor activities. When I tested these binos, there was a lot I liked about them.

For one, like many quality binos, they use ED glass to minimize chromatic aberration and multicoated lenses for sharp and clear viewing.

They have a magnesium chassis, which is lightweight and compact for easy portability.

Athlon Optics 113004 Midas 8x42 UHD has carrying bag, straps, lens cap and cleansing cloth

The chassis is covered with a rubber coating to make it water-resistant and unlike the Perception which is nitrogen purged, this one is Argon purged for fog proof performance.

[wpsm_box type=”info” float=”none” text_align=”left”]
It has a large focus wheel which turns smoothly. And therefore, you are able to focus on your target easily and quickly.
[/wpsm_box]

The other thing is that the Midas has a 426 feet field of view, the same as the Perception. The only difference is the eye relief. The Midas a longer eye relief than the Perception.

Features and Benefits:

  • BaK-4 coated prisms and multicoated lens for crisp clear views
  • Argon purged for waterproof and fog-proof performance
  • Rubberized armor for easy handling particularly when it’s wet
  • Large focus wheel that is easy to use
  • Long eye relief, which is ideal for glass wearers
  • Comes with a carrying case and neck strap

Conclusion

There was a lot I like about the Uplands Optics Perception 8x42mm bino particularly the wide field of view. I was also not disappointed by the optics.

It delivers bright and clear views and this is thanks to the multicoated lenses and the BaK-4 coated prisms it uses.

The construction is solid. Its waterproof and fog proof. It has a rubber armoring which gives the binos a firm grip. All in all, the Perception 8x42mm bino does live to its reputation.

And although it does have some serious competitors, it still is one of my favorite hunting binos by far.

  1. Upland Optics Perception HD 8×42 review

In your PROS & CONS, you say that the “Eye Relief is crappy”. Then further on you say “But I did not think there was another Perception out there that could offer a better eye relief until I tested the Perception 8x42mm bino.”
Also, you said that: “I would not recommend these binos to people who wear glasses.” Then a little further you say; “which is great if you wear glasses.”
    And another quote:
“Having tested the Perception 10×42, I thought to myself, well this is a bino I would recommend to people who wear glasses. More so because it has great eye relief.”
One thing I learned from reading your review is to look elsewhere. Your review was useless.
