Upland Optics Perception HD 20-60x60mm Spotting Scope Review

Upland Optics Perception HD 20-60x60mm Spotting Scope ReviewThe Uplands Optics Perception 20-60x60mm is truly a spotting scope to behold.

Don’t be too surprised when you find yourself in love with this scope.

It caught my interest the moment I lay my eyes on it and when I took it for a test drive, I was hooked.

The design, color, and features are truly amazing. In a nutshell, let me break it down to you what to expect with this scope.

Firstly, the scope spots superior optics that deliver exceptionally bright and clear images. The BaK-4 prisms and the extra-low dispersion glass combined with multicoated lenses offer you the ultimate viewing experience.

Don’t expect to see any color fringing when looking through this spotting scope, the ED glass ensures that the images, no matter how far they are, appear clear, sharp, and bright.

Secondly, this scope has an eye relief of 15-21mm. So if you wear glasses you can adjust the eyecup to up to 21mm for comfortable viewing or you can reduce it to 15mm if you don’t wear glasses. It all depends on your eyesight and level of comfort.

Another great thing about this spotting scope is that it is built to withstand extreme conditions and to last long. I am not saying that it is impervious to damage, but with good care, you can use this scope for years to come.

Another amazing feature is the objective lens. This scope sports a 60mm objective lens. And with such a big lens, keep track of a moving target should be as easy as pie. But a big lens also means that the scope is big and heavy.

Upland Optics Perception HD 20-60x60 Spotting Scope uses with the tripod

You cannot use this spotting scope without a tripod particularly if your hunting expedition is going to take hours. To some hunters, this might seem like a huge disadvantage. But once you see what it can do in the field, the size and weight might seem trivial.

I have used the Leupold 53756 Mark 4 12-40×60 before to hunt elk and I had a wonderful experience with it. What stood out for me was the clarity of the images.

This is a 60mm spotting scope and that means there is more light entering the scope, which means sharper and clearer images. This is a scope you can use in poor lighting conditions and you won’t have a problem seeing your target.

The other thing that stood out for me was the 12-40x magnification, which enables you to see every detail of your target even though it is 1000 meters away.

Even when you crank up the magnification to 40x, the images don’t appear fuzzy, which is an issue you might notice when you increase the magnification of the Perception to 60x.

If you are on a budget and looking for a quality spotting scope, consider the Praktica MH206060B Hydan 20-60×60 spotting scope. It has a large objective lens and 20-60x that allows you to see your target in great clarity despite the distance.

I wouldn’t recommend increasing the magnification to full power as your target may appear fuzzy. Furthermore, this is also going to narrow your field of view making it hard to keep up with your target when it’s on the move.

The Hydan uses multicoated lenses to ensure that images are always clear and sharp at all ranges. It is also nitrogen purged to ensure that it doesn’t fog no matter the weather condition.

It has an eye relief of 16mm, which is adequate for glass wearers. And a close focus distance of 5 meters.

Celestron produces some pretty good scopes and so when I tried the Celestron 52332 TrailSeeker 20-60×80 it performed as I expected. It is a pretty slick and powerful 80mm scope that allows you to see things in great detail no matter how far they are.

The size of the objective lens allows more light to enter through the scope rendering images clear and sharp even in low light conditions. The 20-60x magnification allows you to take accurate shots at long distances.

Aside from that, the Celestron Trailerseeker uses multicoated lenses for bright, clear, and sharp viewing. I really like the dual focusing system as it allows you to quickly and easily focus on your target such that even though it is moving, you never lose sight of it.

Celestron 52332 TrailSeeker 20-60x80 has the T-Mount adapter

And as you would expect for a high-quality scope, the Celestron Trailseeker spotting scope has a solid build that is waterproof and fog proof.

  • 80mm objective lens that enables you to see images clearly at all ranges
  • Solid construction that is waterproof and fog proof
  • Multicoated lenses for sharp and clear viewing even in dim conditions
  • Fast focusing mechanism to help you keep track of moving targets
  • Comes with a rotating tripod

Conclusion

When you look for a spotting scope for hunting elk or any other big game, you need to look out for features like the optics, build, and image clarity. Some spotting scopes deliver very high-images, particularly those with large objective lenses.

And many of them use multicoated lenses to ensure that your views are clear and sharp at all ranges.

So when I compared the Uplands Optics Perception 60mm spotting scope with other similar quality scopes, it basically delivers the same performance. And while the prices of the scopes vary, I found the Perception to be affordable.
