- The BinoX-HD 4-16X uses a CCD sensor to provide night vision capability. More expensive devices utilize Gen1, Gen2, or Gen3 technologies. Resolution is better with the three generations of night vision technology. However, a CCD sensor allows acceptable night vision at a much better price
- These binoculars rely on digital magnification instead of optical. This is the technology used in some digital cameras. Optical magnification is generally superior, but more expensive
- These binoculars perform well at zooming in targets up to 400 yards away. Don’t expect premium performance beyond this distance. The equipment that can do it with high-quality resolution will set you back several thousand dollars

First Impression After Unpacking
One of the biggest selling points of the BinoX-HD 4-16X is its versatility. You have several instruments in a single device.

The BinoX-HD works as a range finder. It is also a compass. And it takes pictures and records video. You can take just this device for a hunting trip and have all your needs covered.

Out of the package, the BinoX-HD comes with several accessories. The best one is a very comfortable neck strap. It doesn’t include a MicroSD card though. Buy a card with enough capacity.

Before you start using your binoculars, you have to install the batteries and firmware. These two operations are rather simple. Just follow the instructions in the manual.
Display and Zoom
The display of these binoculars shows different data such as time, magnification, compass direction, and more. These data are clear, and you won’t have any problem reading them. Setting the image parameters is not difficult, either.
By pressing the “Enter” button, you access the menu. With the arrow buttons, you can navigate the different options. For some people, the menu may be on the small side, though.
The base magnification of these binoculars is 4x. With this value, the sharpness of the display is very good. To zoom in and out, you use the top and bottom arrow buttons, respectively.

Since these binoculars don’t use optical magnification, the image resolution suffers as you zoom in. Above 10x this, loss of quality is evident.
This is the sole drawback that we could find in this product. However, this problem is common to all devices that don’t rely on optical magnification.
Pictures and Video
You can take still images with the press of a button. The device doesn’t take an image instantly after you press the button. But this lag is not a major issue, though. You can change the shooting mode as needed.
You can select a single shot or multiple shots for each button press. When you don’t have a tripod or for action scenes, the multiple shots mode will come in handy.

Likewise, you can record video by pressing just one button. You can choose between 1080P at 30fps and 720P at 60fps. Make sure you first enable the microphone through the menu to record sounds.

Night Vision
These binoculars are good for day and night. You can choose the desired mode. The night vision capabilities at base magnification will blow you away for a short-range (up to 100 yards). The image quality you get is impressive.
However, beyond 100 yards, image clarity starts to deteriorate. In part, the digital magnification is responsible for distortion in low light conditions.
Other Functionalities

The BinoX-HD can connect to your smartphone via a Wi-Fi link. The app that you can install on your smartphone has three main functionalities: Gallery, Viewfinder, and Settings.

The first one allows you to browse and export pictures and videos stored in the microSD card.
The second one allows live streaming from the binoculars. This functionality is useful to monitor an area remotely. You can use it to share the view with your family and friends also.
The third functionality allows for changing settings from your smartphone. These binoculars include a range estimation function too. In most cases, it is fairly accurate.

These binoculars are very versatile. For the money, it is difficult to see what else to expect. The BinoX-HD 4-16X has features that you won’t find in any other device of its type.
